Durham Family Photographer

Carolyn Scott is a Durham family photographer. She specializes in candid and documentary at-home family photography in the Triangle area (Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Cary, etc). Carolyn’s work has been published in several popular books and magazines, including Apartment Therapy, BuzzFeed, and Fangoria. Locally, she’s been voted Best Photographer in Durham Magazine’s Best Of Durham and INDY Week’s Best of the Triangle. She lives in South Durham with her husband Geoff and three cats.

Lindsay is one of my favorite people ever and is probably now one of our most photographed clients as we induct her into the CSP 4 Timers Club! See time one, time two, and time three here. :) Now that I’ve photographed her and Ken a whole bunch, we’re excited to see them welcome a small but presumably really, really, really good looking child into this world. To celebrate this, we had her stand around and contemplate parenthood in the great wilderness of Durham, NC. Don’t let her serene looks fool you as she is truly one of the funniest people we’ve ever met and we love her. Oh, and every once in a while you’ll see Ken in this shoot because he’s an important part of this whole thing, but not quite so important as to be included in the photos while she was in the purple dress (because he wouldn’t match). We love you too, Ken.

Vivi // At Three Years.

YES!! We were so happy to receive an email from Vivi’s parents expressing their desire to hire us yet again to follow Vivi around on a toddler adventure of epic proportions. We did this last year, and it was fantastic. We were warned that Vivi would neither pose nor listen to any photography directions whatsoever, so we were free to follow her around and see where she’d take us. Last year she was into picking up leaves and sticks and running around trying to open the doors to most buildings in the park. She also liked Mr. Geoff. This year she ditched her interest in picking up leaves and is now into picking up little rocks instead. She’s still picking up sticks, but they’re bigger than last year, and instead of trying to open most of the doors, she tried to open every single door she could find anywhere. Most of the time she’d pretend to hit an imaginary buzzer and say, “Ding-dong!” so at least she’s not just barging into the buildings unannounced. Last year it rained on her session, and this year it rained again. Both years she was fine with it. She still likes Mr. Geoff, she’s still adorable, and still has that amazing hair. VIVI TURNS THREE!

Newborn Session // Logan

We are whole heartedly embedded into Abby and Aaron’s family whether they like it or not at this point. We photographed their engagement session when we didn’t know them at all, but we instantly fell in love with their dog Casey (and Abby and Aaron too). We then photographed their wedding when we knew them much better after bonding over their dog as well as our mutual love of Halloween. Since then they’ve become some of our really fantastic friends. They live in our neighborhood and we go to the pool (with donut and pretzel shaped flotation devices like adults), celebrate Halloween together (Abby has had a spooky grand design for the front of our house for a couple of years and is disappointed when each year I manage to not find time to act on her vision), and we had the good fortune of getting to spend a lot more time with Casey as he got older. Now they have a baby whose name is Logan, and we’re excited to spend time with the whole family unit. Logan, however, didn’t seem terribly fond of us (there was a lot of crying, which Abby’s father assured me was payback for their newborn session of Abby where she cried through the whole thing). But we’ll win him over when he’s approximately five and discovers our extensive collection of Legos. :)
